Maiko Chizu ("Maiko" is an apprentice geisha)
 
The culture of geisha is a fading world - I wanted to make a few sets to try to capture the beauty, mystery and artistry that surrounds the geisha's life.
 
It is said that geisha inhabit a separate reality which they call the karyūkai or "the flower and willow world." Before they disappeared the courtesans were the colorful "flowers" and the geisha the "willows" because of their subtlety, strength, and grace.

A story in 1912's St. Nicholas Magazine says that Raphael was inspired by two children he encountered on the street when he saw them "looking wistfully into the window of a baker's shop" and therefore added them to his painting of The Sistine Madonna. As it turns out, the children were contemplating the variety of donuts in the baker's shop and Raphael so amused painted this piece which was part of his private collection. It is a recent acquisition of the Galactical Donut Brigade.
